Sam seems to be past the worst of his sore throat from the t&a. He felt really great the day after surgery and ate popsicles, pudding, and ice cream. But the next several days were a bit worse, and he didn't want to eat much. The biggest struggle was waking him up in the middle of the night to take motrin so he wouldn't wake up later with a terrible sore throat. Now he is sleeping through the night, and no longer snoring!

We planned his birthday party before we planned his surgery, and I'm glad he was feeling up to it, only 5 days after he had his tonsils and adenoids out. He was very excited when he woke up on his birthday and was feeling pretty good. He ended up having a really fun time swimming with is friends. He asked for donations to help save the red panda rather than gifts and was able to symbolically adopt one through the World Wildlife Fund with the money his friends brought.

recovering

Sam had his tonsils and adenoids removed on January 9th. He has always snored and been a restless sleeper and seemed worn out during the day so we opted for him to have the surgery. After the surgery, the ENT told us his tonsils were big, but his adenoids were blocking about 90% of his nasopharynx, so hopefully this will make a big difference in his breathing and sleep!

The surgery was relatively quick, but Sam had some post-op pain and nausea. He got some anti-nausea medications that helped after a while, but one of them caused Sam to have some involuntary facial grimacing. It's a pretty common side effect of the medication and Sam didn't notice it at all, but it was a bit disconcerting for me and Drew. Thankfully it wore off quickly.

Sam has been doing pretty well since being home. Yesterday, he actually had a great day! We play Clue and Monopoly and he ate pudding, ice cream, popsicles, noodle soup, and crackers. But today he woke up and wasn't feeling his best. He's mostly been snuggling up today, and watching TV. His pain is well controlled with motrin and tylenol, but he's just feeling blah. Hopefully relaxing today will set him up for a good recovery.
